ZAYNE'S  DAY

April 30, 2008

Each year my church (Ardmore Baptist) has a Mission Project Fair for the GA/RA mission groups.

This year my project was all about Organ Donor Awareness and how I came to know about it through a special person Zayne.

Although it started out as a project, it now has become part of my life, and I will have to figure out how to continue bringing organ donor awareness to others, especially children.

For more information about Zayne's Day, please read the following (click on each story to go to a different page):

Thank you to Carolina Donor Services in Winston-Salem for supplying information and "freebies" to help with my mission project.  I could not believe all the "Donate Life" bracelets that were being worn.  I hope that every time someone wears a bracelet or writes with a pen,  they will remember how important it is to become a donor.

Thank you to Zayne's family who shared photographs and his journal.

Thank you to Zayne who has inspired me to help people, especially other children, become aware of the need for organs and tissue that will make it possible for others to have a chance at life.

Zayne is my hero.

Many kids as well as adults asked lots of questions about Zayne and about organ donor awareness.  It felt good to be able to share what I knew with them.

I volunteered to tell about my project, Zayne's Day.  But,  I was a little nervous at first.....and a lot sad.  Afterwards, many people told me that they thought I had done a good job.  I was happy, and I think Zayne was smiling, too.

Zayne's life and his being an organ donor changed my life forever.

My hope is that on April 15 each year, we can celebrate Zayne's Day, making people aware of the need for organs and tissue....one person at a time.

I am a Cub Scout, and I am hoping to get this patch.  It is an old patch, so I don't know if they still offer it.  I figure if I get the patch, I can wear it and others will ask me questions about it.  Then I can tell them about "Zayne's Day".

UPDATE--I DID NOT GET THE DONOR AWARENESS PATCH.  MY CUBMASTER SAID IT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
